We have free range bantams that multiply on their own, and will hatch eggs of full size chickens, even ducks. If you have tried to find setting hens, you may have noted that the broodiness has mostly been bred out of modern chickens. They are also of course, very decorative.
Hens come in black or wheaten. Roosters come in a fairly standard BB Red or Gold pattern, though some are a bit streaky. Their crowing fits their small size, and thus is enjoyable rather than overwhelming. Hens $15, roos $5. Most of what I have are last year's hatch, and hens are in lay now.
