SOLD Pure bred heritage breed Red Wattle piglets for sale. (Only 2 boys left). Boys will be intact/not cut. My butcher advises against it as he says they grow heartier and more robust left intact and he cuts them just after putting them down with no taint problem. The father is actually more docile then the mother!
Piglets born February 6th. They are ready to go. 7 weeks and approx. 30-35#. $100 each or take both for $150.
Mother and father on site. Mother comes from Green Achers Farm in North Carolina (registered with with Red Wattle Pig Assoc.) and father comes from a pure bred red wattle farm in Harrogate, TN near the Kentucky border.
Red Wattle pigs are a heritage breed pig and are "one of few breeds left in the world with wattles hanging from its jowl. Red Wattle hogs are known for hardiness, foraging activity, and rapid growth rate. They produce a well marbled flavorful meat that has been described as similar to beef. The sows are excellent mothers, farrow from 7 to12 piglets, and provide good quantities of milk for their large litters. Full grown they can weigh 600-800# with some topping off at 1200#. Red Wattles adapt to a wide range of climates. Their active foraging makes them a good choice in outdoor or pasture-based swine production. They have a mild temperament and their gentle nature recommends them to the small-scale, independent producer." Red Wattle pigs continue to be listed as endangered livestock on The Livestock Conservancy list as their overall population numbers are still very small.
